A tattoo does not allow you to decide blood-donation eligibility by appearance alone. Use the current Health Sciences Authority screening guidance and disclose the procedure when assessed.

Use the official eligibility check
Start with HSA’s “Can I donate blood” page and its eligibility tools. HSA states that the final assessment is made by a medical screening professional at the Bloodbank. Ask HSA directly if the tattoo circumstances are not covered clearly.
Keep the details needed for screening
- The date of the tattoo, including any later touch-up.
- The country and setting where it was performed.
- Any infection, reaction or treatment afterwards.
- Relevant travel, medicines or other recent procedures.
Do not reuse an old blog’s blanket “six to twelve months” claim, assume a local tattoo automatically qualifies, or withhold a recent touch-up. A studio can provide facts about your appointment; it cannot approve you as a donor.
Plan without making a medical shortcut
If donation is important to your schedule, resolve eligibility with HSA before fixing tattoo dates. Do not arrange donation immediately before tattooing simply to bypass a waiting period.
A short record you can keep
Make one dated note for each procedure rather than keeping only a photograph of the finished design. For example, record the first sitting, a later sitting and any touch-up as separate events, with the setting and country for each. If you are asked when the tattoo was done, you can then describe the complete sequence accurately instead of remembering only the first visit.
Keep factual appointment information separate from your own conclusion about eligibility. “The studio was clean” is not the same statement as an answer to a specific screening question. If HSA needs a detail you do not know, ask the studio rather than guessing. Recheck current guidance when you plan to donate; saving an old waiting-period screenshot does not establish that it still applies to your circumstances.
