Before enlistment, a tattoo raises two separate questions: what your service or role permits, and whether the appointment fits your training schedule. A studio should not answer either by promising that every placement is accepted.

Get an answer for your situation
Ask your enlistment or unit contact about current appearance requirements, any declaration process and restrictions relevant to the role. Show the intended placement and design if needed. Advice for an NSF, a regular applicant and a different uniformed service should not be treated as interchangeable.
- Check what the actual uniform exposes during normal movement.
- Confirm whether design content is subject to review.
- Keep the written answer rather than relying on a forum screenshot.
Leave room around training
Do not place a fresh tattoo immediately before a period of field activity, swimming, prolonged equipment friction or limited access to your aftercare supplies. If the schedule is uncertain, postpone the tattoo instead of assuming a dressing will solve every practical problem.
Keep three decisions separate
The design’s acceptability, the placement’s visibility and the appointment’s timing are separate checks. A non-offensive subject does not by itself establish that a role accepts that placement. A covered placement does not settle how a fresh tattoo will fit compulsory activities.
Write down who answered each question and for which service or application. If your role or schedule changes, revisit the relevant answer rather than repeating the whole consultation from memory. Tell the artist only the verified practical boundary, not a broad claim that “NS allows tattoos”. If no clear answer is available before enlistment, preserving the design idea for later may be more useful than committing to a location based on another person’s experience.
Discuss scheduling with Yuyi Tattoo only after resolving service requirements. The artist can adapt the design boundary and appointment plan, but cannot grant an exemption or certify eligibility for a role.
