The Line That Learned to Breathe
Yuyi is the tattoo artist behind Yuyi Tattoo in Geylang. At the LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, he learned to make a still image carry weight. In 2010, the line left the page and learned to breathe on skin.

The Day the Canvas Began to Move
The room was quiet except for the low hum of a machine. The drawing was ready. The skin beneath it was not still. It breathed, turned and tightened under his hand.
Everything Yuyi knew from fine art had to move with it: proportion, balance, light and the place where the eye lands first. Paper waits. A shoulder rolls forward. A back rises with breath. An arm turns and the image must turn with it.
That first lesson became the thread running through his work. The tattoo should not look borrowed from a page. It should feel as if the line had been there all along, waiting to be revealed.

Then the Room Learned His Name
Some chapters announce themselves. In 2017, beneath the lights of Tattoo Show Taipei, two announcements carried Yuyi’s name across the room. One first place. One second place. Seven years of work, reduced to a few seconds at a microphone.

By 2024, the story had returned to Singapore. The trophies went back to Geylang. The hand that earned them went back to work.
